One of the country’s top banks, the UnionBank of the Philippines (UnionBank), has collaborated with the Social Security System (SSS) to bring the UnionBank SSS ATM pay card to life, which serves as both a legitimate ID card and ATM card to an existing UnionBank savings account.

Announced in 2022 and rolled out earlier in 2023, the program has since been availed by qualified SSS members who are then enjoying its perks and benefits.

Kenneth Sulmayor, a 32-year-old entrepreneur, was among those who immediately grabbed the opportunity and made the upgrade upon hearing of the ID card-ATM card hybrid on Facebook.

“I visited my My.SSS account, shared my consent, downloaded the UnionBank app, and applied. After that, I received an email confirmation that my application was successful,” said Sulmayor.

Not only was the registration for the upgrade easy but receiving the upgraded UMID card is faster, too. In more or less 15 days since applying on the UnionBank app, Sulmayor received his UnionBank SSS UMID ATM Pay Card.

Keen on trying his new shiny card, Sulmayor conducted a transaction by transferring funds from another account to it—and with relative success.

Qualified SSS members or those who already have their SSS UMID card may choose to make the jump to UnionBank SSS UMID Pay Card, which will be tied to a regular savings account without a required maintaining balance, and take advantage of its benefits.
