The OPPO F7 is one of the biggest contenders in the midrange market. Its appealing set of features, partnered with strong marketing prowess, made OPPO’s current flagship in the Philippines one of the best-selling smartphones right now.

Just a few months after, OPPO is already following it up with the new OPPO F7 Youth — a toned down and more budget-friendly counterpart of the F7.

The new device came from the same mold as its bigger brother. However, this time, it has a more humble set of specifications to accommodate the cheaper asking price. But still, it pretty much retained the same identity of the standard F7.

But in the midrange market, there’s no shortage of competition. In fact, Samsung recently unveiled another competitor in the name of the Samsung Galaxy A6 2018.

Coming from a more prominent brand, the Samsung Galaxy A6 stands behind the shadows of the other members of its family like the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9. But if you’ve been following all of Samsung’s releases, I’m sure you’re aware that they are not so great at making value-oriented, midrange smartphones.

With the new Samsung Galaxy A6 2018, did the Korean tech giant finally got it right? Or are Chinese players such as OPPO with their F7 continue to dominate? Go check our OPPO F7 Youth and Samsung Galaxy A6 specifications and features comparison below to figure that out.

From the first look, it feels like the OPPO F7 Youth is the clear winner here. Based on the table above, it has better offers in some key areas. However, the Samsung Galaxy A6 actually went around them by being better at some of the extras and other secondary perks.

For starters, the Galaxy A6 has a better set of cameras. It comes with 16-megapixel sensors in front and back. Meanwhile, the OPPO F7 Youth only has an 8-megapixel selfie shooter and a 13-megapixel primary camera.

Samsung’s bet also has NFC — for those who actually use it — and a more modern USB Type-C connectivity. It also comes with a fingerprint scanner, something that the F7 Youth surprisingly lacks.

But the thing is, I highly doubt that those minor quirks are enough to make it better than the OPPO F7 Youth. As you can see, OPPO’s smartphone offers better features in important departments — parts that are actually more important than the extras, especially for a device at this price point.

The OPPO F7 Youth is equipped with a better MediaTek Helio P60 processor which has a higher clock speed of 2.0GHz than the 1.6GHz Exynos 7870 processor on the Galaxy A6. It also comes with a bigger 6-inch screen with a sharper resolution of FHD+. On the other hand, the Galaxy A6 only has a 5.6-inch HD+ display.

And as if it weren’t enough, the F7 Youth also comes with a noticeably bigger 3,410mAh battery compared to the Galaxy A6’s 3,000mAh capacity.

What’s more interesting is, the OPPO F7 Youth is priced much lower than the Samsung Galaxy A6 2018, which is really surprising considering that it has a better set of features than the competition. It retails for a price of Php13,990, while the latter costs Php16,490. That’s a Php2,500 price difference. If you value branding more than the better set of features, go with the Galaxy A6 2018. Otherwise, pick the OPPO F7 Youth.

  1. Matagal nang nangungulelat ang Samsung sa china brands, lalo sa Xiaomi. People want value for money not overpriced garbage that Samsung keeps churning out.
