OPPO-R17-Pro-vs-Xiaomi-Mi-8-SE-Specs-Comparison

OPPO is finally bringing their R-series devices in the Philippines. However, a lot of competition is waiting for its arrival.

The company wants to go big that they will debut this line-up with the new OPPO R17 Pro, the superior variant of the standard OPPO R17.

This device is actually a big milestone for OPPO as it’s their first smartphone to come with three rear cameras, following the footsteps of the likes of the Huawei P20 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy A7 2018.

Other than its jampacked camera system, the R17 Pro also has a pretty capable processor. This thing comes with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, which bridges the gap between Qualcomm’s midrange 600-series and the flagship 800-series SoC.

Besides the OPPO R17 Pro, there are already a few Snapdragon 710-equipped handsets in the Philippines today. One of them is the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE — an intelligently compromised version of XIaomi’s flagship line-up.

Can OPPO R17 Pro’s triple-camera bonanza enough to upstage the Mi 8 SE? Or does Xiaomi’s offering deliver overall better value for money just like what they usually do? Read our OPPO R17 Pro versus Xiaomi Mi 8 SE specifications and features comparison to to figure that out.

The OPPO R17 Pro easily wins this specs comparison, no question about that. While they definitely have similarities in some areas, the R17 Pro beats the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro as OPPO goes over-the-top in some of its features.

First off, we have the displays. Both smartphones boasts an AMOLED screen. But where the R17 shines is in its larger 6.4-inch dimensions with a less-distracting waterdrop notch. It’s also protected by a tougher Corning Gorilla Glass 6 to prevent scratches. But to the Mi 8 SE’s credit, it does have a DCI-P3 coverage and HDR10 compatibility.

Speaking of the screen, the OPPO R17 Pro is equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner, which feels more futuristic than the standard traditional fingerprint reader of the Mi 8 SE.

Both devices might have the same processor, but we expect even better performance from the OPPO R17 Pro as it has more RAM capacity. This handset comes with 8GB of memory, while the latter only has 6GB of it for the top-of-the-line model. The R17 pro even has 128GB of storage, which is two times more than the Mi 8 SE.

Of course, we have the cameras. The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE has 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual rear cameras. Meanwhile, the OPPO R17 Pro goes overboard with its 12-megapixel + 20-megapixel + TOF 3D triple rear cameras.

The primary shooter has a variable aperture of f/1.5-f/2.4, and it even has OIS that helps to take better pictures at night. There’s also an extra 20-megapixel secondary camera. And lastly, a TOF camera that captures depth for more effects.

And lastly, we have the batteries. The Mi 8 SE has a 3,120mAh battery, which is nothing against the 3,700mAh capacity that the R17 Pro has. OPPO even included their Super VOOC charging on this device. That’s the same ultra fast-charging technology found on the more expensive OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition.

To finally wrap it up, let’s talk about the price. The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE retails for CNY1,799 (~Php14,800) for the 4GB/64GB and CNY1,999 (~Php16,400) for the 6GB/256GB model.

On the other hand, the OPPO R17 Pro has an official price of CNY4,299, which is at around Php33,300 when directly converted to Philippine pesos.

We expect the R17 Pro to cost several thousand more when it gets here. If you want the better camera, more RAM, and storage, OPPO R17 Pro is the way to go. Otherwise, the large savings you can get with the Mi 8 SE makes it a pretty solid choice.

  1. Shit just go with Xiaomi and let’s call it a day. No need to go overboard and OA with the king of overpriced Shit Oppo and Vivo, hooray! these 2 siblings know how to make you pay whenever they have new releases! new features to make you PAY and rape your wallet.

  2. Hi,

Good post. Both the phones are very much similar with some minor differences. Oppo boasts of expandable memory whereas MI doesn’t have that option in this phone. Oppo’s ram is also more than MI. Though the pricing of mI is much cheaper as compared to Oppo.

Thanks for sharing, have a good day. :)
