Technology advanced way too fast that we’re seeing the next-gen 5G technology on midrange phones, like the ones we’re comparing today.
The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is the latest from the company that’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700. That’s the chipset that made affordable 5G phones like this possible.

We’d be stacking that with the also-new Realme 8 5G, which also uses the same chipset.
More than that, there is a lot of anticipation surrounding this device since it’s the only second 5G smartphone that the company launched in the Philippines.

While they do share the same chipset, there is more to a smartphone than its processor. There’s the design, display, camera, battery, and, more importantly, the price. So, the question is, which between the two is the one for you? We find out in our Samsung Galaxy A22 5G versus Realme 8 5G specifications and features comparison.

Design and Build Quality
Whether a smartphone looks good or bad is a matter of self preference. Personally, we prefer the Realme 8 5G’s looks, despite both models sporting equally clean — albeit might be a little boring — designs.

The Realme 8 5G has a shiny material on the back with a more distinct camera glass. There’s a lip for the pill-shaped LED flash and camera logo.
But to Samsung’s credit, they’re offering the Galaxy A22 5G in more color option.

Sadly, neither has an official IP rating for water and dust protection. They also don’t come with the sturdiest glass to protect the screen. Not a big deal, though, considering their prices.
Display and Audio
It’s a close fight on this round. As you can see, both devices have FHD+ pixel resolution and a fast 90Hz refresh rate.

But ultimately, it looks like the Realme 8 5G won this round thanks to its better IPS panel versus the TFT of the former, which is quite odd since Samsung phones are generally known for their great display.
As for audio, both devices come with a standard single loudspeaker and headphone jack. No stereo setup.
Hardware and Performance
As stated earlier, both the Galaxy A22 5G and Realme 8 5G have the same MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor. This is where they get their 5G connectivity.

Although, Realme’s bet managed to overtake Samsung’s by having a bigger 8GB of RAM for better multitasking and faster UFS 2.2 storage.
The Realme 8 also has a newer Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity and even NFC.
Camera
It looks like we have a draw on this round. If you plan on taking a lot of selfies or participate in video calls, then the Realme 8 5G and its sharper 16-megapixel front-facing camera might be the one for you.

But if having an ultra-wide rear camera for taking group pictures, tall buildings, and whatnot is important, then you might be better off with the Galaxy A22 5G and its ultra-wide camera.
But, bear in mind that it’s only a 5-megapixel sensor instead of the more acceptable 8-megapixel that the others have. Still, it’s better than nothing if you really want it.

Battery
Both the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G and Realme 8 5G have the same 5,000mAh battery. Since they also share the same processor and identical displays, the overall battery life should be the same.

However, we gotta hand the win on the Realme 8 5G on this one, thanks to its faster 18W charging.
Conclusion
We have a clear winner here. As you can see, the Realme 8 5G managed to defeat the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G by having a better screen, larger RAM capacity, new Bluetooth standard, NFC, and faster charging.

The best part is, it’s actually Php2,000 cheaper. It retails for only Php11,990, while the latter, despite having a smaller RAM capacity, is more expensive at Php13,990.
