Disney CEO Bob Iger has finally confirmed when Disney+’s password-sharing crackdown will happen.

In an interview with CNBC, Bob Iger says that they plan on launching their “first real foray into password sharing” in June 2024. The new rule will first roll out in “a few countries in a few markets” before being effective to all subscribers come September.

Disney’s password-sharing rules were initially rolled out in the US to new subscribers in January and to existing users in March.

Users who are “suspected of improper (password) sharing” will get a pop-up to create their own subscription account. But if they plan to continue sharing accounts, the main user can add members outside their household for an additional monthly fee.

How much the additional fee is, plus other details on the new rule, shall be revealed soon.

Disney+ follows Netflix’s move to go against password-sharing after the latter successfully implemented theirs when it led to a major increase in paying users.

This will make Disney+ even more expensive to some users. Recently, the service has implemented a price hike in markets like the Philippines, where it now starts at Php249 per month.
