Throughout 2024, the popular battle royale game PUBG is poised to introduce a series of new features that are expected to considerably enhance gameplay. Despite being in the market for six years, PUBG maintains its position as a highly played title on both consoles and PC platforms, notably on Steam.
The game’s developer, Krafton, has announced plans for the incorporation of destructible environments. This update will allow players to strategically demolish parts of structures or erect defensive fortifications, thereby creating fresh offensive opportunities and securing areas. The introduction of this feature is set to add a dynamic tactical element to PUBG, with an initial glimpse scheduled for release in an April update followed by subsequent enhancements.
A significant technical upgrade is also on the horizon as PUBG transitions to Unreal Engine 5, marking a new chapter in the game’s development. Krafton views this move as a starting point for a thrilling evolution, as the game is currently operating on Unreal Engine 4.

In addition to these changes, Krafton is working on regular gunplay updates, which will be released every two months. These updates aim to stabilize the gaming ecosystem and offer players a broader selection for strategic purposes.
Before these weapons make their full debut, players will have the chance to try them out in the Arcade’s Gunplay Labs. Moreover, Krafton is focused on creating items that enhance survival aspects and improving game modes to accommodate a more relaxed play style, indicating a desire to attract a wider audience.
Krafton also intends to introduce user-generated content, allowing players to craft and interact with their creations within the game. This initiative is designed to cultivate a dynamic, creator-led community reminiscent of what is seen in Fortnite.

Since its initial launch on PC via Steam in March 2017, PUBG has experienced phenomenal success and growth. It reached a milestone in January 2018 when it set the record for the highest number of concurrent players on Steam for a single game, with a staggering 3,257,248 players online simultaneously. PUBG’s expansion continued across console platforms and mobile, with the latter surpassing one billion downloads.
While the game may not be at the peak of its early fame, PUBG still commands a significant player base, consistently drawing hundreds of thousands of players on Steam.
