Beta testers are getting an early taste over Apple’s latest iteration of its prized mobile operating system, iOS 14.5, and, with it, comes a feature that will truly pique the delight of current-gen console owners—native controller support to both PS5 DualSense and Xbox Series X/S controllers.

A feature that is first to iOS, this means that PS5 or Xbox Series X and Series S owners can also game on their iPhone or iPad using the corresponding controller as an external gamepad.

Apple initially announced iOS 14.5 back in November 2020, where it also mentioned working with Microsoft in order to bring controller support for the Xbox Series X/S controllers. But it appears that subsequent development with the project now also incorporates DualSense auxiliary functionality, too.

Being the next major update to a long-standing OS, iOS 14.5 also brings with it a slew of other features, like unlock capability using Apple Watch, CarPlay ETA sharing, Siri emergency calling, as well as dual-sim 5G support.
