OPPO-F9-Review-Price-Specs-NoypiGeeks

OPPO has just made their newest midrange smartphone official. The new OPPO F9 is here, and it’s already prepared to replace the OPPO F7, the previous flag bearer of the F-series.

While we are still finishing up our full review, we want to give you a quick sneak peek by telling you our first hands-on experience and initial thoughts about the new OPPO F9.

Let’s first start with the design and build. The OPPO F9 feels exactly the same in the hands with the F7. But on paper, the F9 is a tad bit heavier at 169g, while the F7 is only 158g.

UPDATE: Our full review is now up. Read it here.

However, I really like what OPPO did with the notch. It is now much smaller, which gives you more screen estate for watching videos and playing games.

The OPPO F9’s design is also a big improvement, especially the design accents at the back. The petal-like pattern provides a unique character to the device. Plus, the gradient color tone makes it look really modern.

The device is available in Sunrise Red, which has this Pink and Violet color gradient. There’s also the Twilight Blue and a limited edition Starry Purple that has glitter touches, which mimics the stars at night.

Moreover, the OPPO F9 uses a MediaTek Helio P60 processor, which is the same chipset used on the F7. It also has a roomy 6GB of RAM, which is a rare feat for a device in the category.

In my official testing, the performance was able to hold up. The interface feels fluid, basic apps like Facebook and Instagram ran well, while the camera app launches and takes photos fast. We’ll be testing its performance in gaming and real-world scenarios for our full review.

Going back to the camera, the 25-megapixel selfie camera and dual 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel rear shooters were able to produce good photos in our initial photos. The colors looked punchy with good contrast.

Of course, it also takes impressive selfies. Partnered with its AI Beauty modes and AR stickers, this device doesn’t run out of novelties for you to enjoy.

However, the first pictures we’ve taken was during a bright afternoon outdoors, so it’s not so surprising that they look really good. We’ll see how the camera performs, especially in low-light scenarios, once we use it for a little longer.

Moving on, the OPPO F9’s biggest improvements over the F7 is its VOOC fast-charging capability. According to OPPO, a 5-minute charge can provide 2 hours of talk-time. We weren’t able to test it out just yet, but we’ve been impressed by the quick charging of the Find X which has the same technology.

We did try plugging it in for 5 minutes, and the device easily gained 9% of charge. That might look like a small number, but that’s already a huge gain for such a small time.

Clearly, the OPPO F9 is a good step up from the F7. The interesting part is, the F9 has a price tag of Php17,990 the same price as the OPPO F7 when it was launched.

We still have to extensively test how the OPPO F9 holds up in real-world usage. With that, expect to see the full gaming experience, benchmarks, battery performance, and more in our full review.
