More than just gamers, Discord has become one of the biggest chatting platforms in the world. It’s being used by friends, family, and workmates to create communities for different interests like movies, sports events, and more.
Made so people can share different interests and hobbies with one another, Discord has good integration with different services like YouTube, Reddit, Crunchyroll, TikTok, and Spotify. With this, you can watch your favorite videos, read materials, or listen to music with the people you bond with.
As one of the most popular platforms it has integrations with, today we’ll show you how you can link your Spotify account to Discord, so you can have a party listen to the same music wherever they are. Let’s begin.

How to play Spotify on Discord
Step 1: First, make sure you link your Spotify account to Discord. If you haven’t already, follow the steps above.
Step 2: Play music on your Spotify app, go to your channel, click the + icon then click “Invite #user to Listen to Spotify”.
Step 3: Send the invite with an optional message. The invite is also dynamic, which means that the displayed music or podcast changes as you listen.
Step 4: Have your friend click “Join” from the invite. Voila! You’re now both listening to the same music.
Alternatively, you can also skip the invite process. Once your Discord is open and you’re listening to music, your name on other users’ friends’ lists (right corner) will show that you’re listening to Spotify. They can click on your name and then click “Play on Spotify”.
This means that, even if you don’t intend to, your friends on Discord will see whatever you’re listening to. If you want to keep your music choice a secret, go back to Settings > Connections > Disable “Display on profile”.
Should every user have a Spotify account?
Yes. Because after clicking “Join”, the Discord app will open the Spotify app and play music from there. This is why all of you who want to join the Spotify party should have a Spotify account.
Take note that all of your Spotify accounts should have the Premium subscription, as it won’t work on the free tier.
Who can control the music on Discord’s Spotify?
Based on our testing, only the user who sent the invite can control the music. A joiner can control the music on their end (skip tracks, skim through tracks, volume, etc.) but it won’t affect the whole session.
How to disconnect Spotify from Discord?
Step 1: Click Settings in the bottom left corner.
Step 2: Click Connection, then click the “X” button next to Spotify.
These are the things you should know about linking and disconnecting your Spotify account from your Discord. Now, you can listen to your favorite music, enjoy podcasts, or discover new tracks with friends that share the same interest.
