Magic Chess is a turn-based strategy game mode that you can play within the Mobile Legends app. It is also a great change of pace from your usual Classic and Ranked games, as its gameplay is different and requires a different set of skills.

However, if you think it’s easy to win in Magic Chess, then you are wrong because you need more than just skills, but also a bit of luck as you need to get heroes that will suit your strategy and be a great counter against other players.

In this article, let’s take a look at how to increase your chances of winning Magic Chess. Just remember that the tips below will not guarantee a win, but knowing these things will improve your ranking in the game.

Choose the best Little Commanders

One of the more important aspects of Magic Chess that gives players certain advantages is the Little Commanders. You’ll use these in-game characters, who will be your controller, to recruit heroes. They also have special abilities and effects you can utilize throughout the game.

Just ensure to read their descriptions and effects first before buying any of them because their price is similar to the regular Battle Arena heroes, which is about 24,000 Battle Points. You wouldn’t want to waste your BPs on weak commanders because you will be disadvantaged against players who use stronger heroes.

If you’re still new, you will start with Harper, the default. However, you must invest to buy the stronger heroes as you rank up. Some of the popular Commanders are Ling, Tharz, and Angela.

If you’re fairly new to Magic Chess and are still unsure how to get around the game and win it, recommended lineups will be a great starting point. The system carefully selects these lineups to allow users to navigate the best synergies to combine.

When using recommended lineups, you will see a “thumbs up” symbol beside the hero or an item indicating that it is the proper way to move forward with your selected setup. The heroes with the letter “C” show they are the best heroes to improve to increase your chances of winning. You can also filter the recommendations based on what faction or role you want to concentrate on.

However, one of the disadvantages of using recommended lineups is your chances of getting your preferred heroes are still based on probabilities. So, it is still best to adjust as you go. You can also change your recommendations during the game.

Start strong by choosing your first heroes

The first hero you pick at the game’s start will give you three starting heroes. These heroes will determine your fate for the game’s first round, which can be a make-or-break for your team. So, selecting the hero based on your current strategy is best.

Though the rest of the game will be more random, selecting strong heroes you can build your team around is still advantageous.

Master the Magic Chess synergies

Synergies are the most important part of Magic Chess because they determine the best combination of heroes to create the strongest lineup you can do. There are 20 synergies, 11 based on faction and nine based on role.

So, you must understand how to mix and match heroes to gain the best effects of their synergies because you will only have limited slots throughout the game. Synergies also have different tiers, depending on how many heroes in each synergy group you have completed.

Save up your gold to get some bonus

At the start of the game, it is highly encouraged to save up your gold to take advantage of the interest you can earn. These additional golds will allow you to buy more heroes or extra hero slots faster. You can also gain further bonus golds from winning or losing streaks. Here are the bonus golds:

  • 10 Gold at the end of the round will give you 2 Gold From Interest
  • 20 Gold at the end of the round will give you 4 Gold From Interest

Based on these bonuses, it’s recommended that you always maintain at least 20 golds to take advantage of 4 extra gold per round. However, suppose you’re having difficulty getting more preferred heroes. In that case, you can use your gold to buy new heroes, but ensure to leave at least 10 gold.

Use your losing streak to your advantage

You will gain additional losing streak gold bonus whenever you lose consecutive rounds. Besides these golds, you will be the first to pick from a selection of heroes, equipment, emblems, or an extra slot from Choice of Fate. The first pick from the selection will boost your team for the next round, so be on alert for your turn.

When selecting, you need to prioritize the following order:

  1. Additional Hero Capacity – this will give you an extra hero slot. You can only choose this once.
  2. Equipment – this will give you items with special skills and effects.
  3. Emblem – this will give you an effect that you can use to increase your synergy.
  4. Heroes – you can choose a hero you miss in your lineup.

It is important to go on this order because hero capacity and extra equipment don’t go often. In contrast, heroes are always available to choose from, so it won’t make sense to select them at any round of Choice of Fate.

Choose your equipment properly

During every round, you have the opportunity to select equipment or items that will strengthen your heroes. You can get them on Choice of Fate at the end of the round or after defeating neutral monsters during the middle of the round. When the choice appears, you must prioritize items that fit well for your heroes.

For instance, if you’re going for the Mage synergy, you must prioritize items that increase your Magic Damage. If you’re building a lineup filled with physical attack heroes, taking items that will give you more damage or attack speed is a priority.

One of the most important equipment that will work in almost any lineup is the Enchanted Talisman, which can restore your mana to 65% at the start of the battle, giving you an advantage in casting a skill.

Strategize hero placement

Hero placements are an important strategy in the game because where you place your heroes will determine their vulnerability against enemy attacks.

To do this, you need to place tougher and more durable heroes in the front line while placing your softer heroes (like the Mages, Archers, and Gunners) in the back line, so they will have free-hit opportunities without getting attacked.

Some commanders have special effects where proper hero placements will benefit your team. For example, if you have a Level 3 Benny capable of duplicating heroes that walk through its trap, then it would be favorable to have a Franco behind it to take advantage of its hook to copy enemy heroes.

Adapt to your enemy lineup

Magic Chess is a game of probability and skill. First, it is a game of probabilities because every hero has their own odds of showing up. In contrast, the more expensive heroes have a lower possibility than the cheaper heroes. There will also be times when you’re trying to build a synergy, but it never shows up.

Second, it is a game of skills because as the game progresses, you must adapt your lineup to your enemies to increase your chances of winning. This is because lineups have their counter-lineups.

For instance, if you’re using a lineup filled with mages or gunners, in that case, you are prone to swordsmen and assassins who can easily take your backline heroes. One thing you can do is to place your heroes beside a durable hero or re-arrange your heroes in another order.

Magic Chess is a strategy game, but it is also a ranked game where you’ll be matched against players of the same caliber. This way, you can hone your skills better. Remember that this is just a guide and is not a definitive handbook that will guarantee your win.
