Magic Chess is the arcade mode of the popular game Mobile Legends. Though the game can only be played within the ML app, its gameplay differs and offers a turn-based strategy than your usual real-time battle arena. The good thing about playing Magic Chess is that it uses the same familiar faces, as the heroes used in Mobile Legends and Magic Chess are the same.

If there’s one thing that every Magic Chess player should master or even just understand, it is the concept of synergies. In this article, let’s learn about the different synergies in the game and how you can utilize them to win in Magic Chess.

What is synergy in Magic Chess?

Synergies are additional and unique effects your team will get whenever you collect the proper combinations of heroes based on their specific roles and factions. These synergies are the most important aspect of Magic Chess because they will determine your team’s overall strength.

When choosing your synergies, you need to consider both the roles and factions of a hero to take advantage of the limited hero slots that will open throughout the game. Starting with three, the maximum number of heroes you can get is only ten (if you survive that long).

Synergies are activated when you reach the required number of heroes and their various tiers. For instance, some synergies are activated with three heroes, then you’ll get a higher effect level if you collect six heroes.

So, it’s important to determine which synergies you’ll invest in to ensure you can activate as many synergies as possible with maximum effect.

What are the different types of Magic Chess synergies?

There are currently 20 different types of synergies divided into nine roles and 11 factions. Each hero usually contains two synergies – one for its role and another for its faction. However, some heroes can have up to three synergies.

Note: The number enclosed in the bracket shows the number of heroes required to activate the synergy effect. Example: [3] means three heroes.

According to their Role:

A hero’s role is based on their special skills or weaponry used.

Synergy-By-Role

1. Weapon Master

Heroes: Atlas, Franco, Martis, Freya, Zilong, Julian, Leomord, Benedetta, Alpha

[3] Allied heroes can convert 25% of their damage dealt into H.P.
[6] Allied heroes can convert 60% of their damage dealt into H.P.
[9] Allied heroes can convert 125% of their damage dealt into H.P.

Strategy: When the Weapon Master’s H.P. is still full, the converted H.P. will turn into a Shield. Weapon Masters are also the only synergy with the highest required heroes to reach their maximum effect with nine. So, using Weapon Master can be harder to complete.

2. Summoner

Heroes: Zhask, Sun, Vexana, Popol

[2] When the round begins, receive one random Summoner hero. Increase the damage of summoned units by 50%.
[4] When the round begins, receive one random Summoner hero. Increase the damage of summoned units by 150%.

Strategy: Using Summoner heroes early in the game will give you a higher chance of leveling up your other Summoner heroes because of the probability of getting similar heroes after each round. Then, once you have leveled up your Summoner heroes, you can sell the bonus heroes from the effect.

3. Archer

Heroes: Miya, Irithel, Moskov, Wanwan, Melissa, Hanabi

[3] Archers gain 2 extra Attack Range and reduce the target’s Physical Defense by 2 on each Basic Attack (up to 25 stacks).
[6] Archers gain 4 extra Attack Range and reduce the target’s Physical Defense by 5 on each Basic Attack (up to 40 stacks).

Strategy: Archers are soft and low HP heroes, so putting them in the back row or placing a tank hero in front is best. However, it would help if you placed a durable hero next to Archers (and other soft hero roles) to deter Swordsman heroes, as they can jump straight to the back row.

4. Elementalist

Heroes: Eudora, Rafaela, Luo Yi, Valir, Aurora, Xavier

[3] Elementalists recover 50% Mana each time they cast a skill.
[6] Elementalists’ first skill cast takes effect twice in each battle, after which they recover 50% Mana each time they cast a skill.

Strategy: When using elementalists, you must ensure you have strong front-line heroes and tanks to take the heavy-hitting for them. Prioritize strengthening Eudora because of her strong burst damage and Xavier for his AoE skill.

5. Mage

Heroes: Kadita, Esmeralda, Cyclops, Julian, Faramis, Kagura

[2] Allied heroes gain 40% extra Magic Damage and 20% Spell Vamp.
[4] Allied heroes gain 80% extra Magic Damage and 20% Spell Vamp.
[6] Allied heroes gain 100% extra Magic Damage and 20% Spell Vamp.

Strategy: The mage is a strong combination but is relatively more expensive, so you need to save up your coins. You must target at least the Tier 2 synergy to get the best out of this lineup.

6. Guardian

Heroes: Belerick, Minotaur, Johnson, Akai, Estes

[2] Guardians gain 60 extra Physical Defense.
[3] Guardians gain 90 extra Physical Defense.

Strategy: Guardians are the most durable front-line heroes consisting of tanks and support. However, they lack the necessary firepower to create ample damage. You may add Archers, Mages, Gunners, or  Elementalists to compensate for their lack of offensive prowess.

7. Gunner

Heroes: Roger, Claude, Layla, Kimmy, Bane, Lesley, Clint

[2] Gunners gain 20% extra Crit Chance and 50% Crit Damage.
[4] Gunners gain 25% extra Crit Chance and 100% Crit Damage.
[6] Gunners gain 30% extra Crit Chance and 175% Crit Damage.

Strategy: Gunners, like Archer, can cause heavy damage but have low HP and durability, so it’s best to pair them with tanks.

8. Wrestler

Heroes: Aldous, Badang, Dyrroth, Chou, Masha, Yin

[2] Wrestlers’ Basic Attacks have a 15% chance to stun the target for 2.5s.
[4] Wrestlers’ Basic Attacks have a 25% chance to stun the target for 2.5s.
[6] Wrestlers’ Basic Attacks have a 55% chance to stun the target for 2.5s.

Strategy: Wrestlers are melee heroes using strong basic attacks that can bring solid offense. However, they are also best paired with tanks to add some durability.

9. Swordsman

Heroes: Karina, Saber, Lancelot, Ling, Hayabusa

[2] Dealing damage increases Swordsmen’s Attack by 25 and Magical Power by 25 (up to 10 stacks).
[4] Dealing damage increases Swordsmen’s Attack by 40 and Magical Power by 40 (up to 10 stacks).

Strategy: Swordsmen are heroes that can counter the enemy’s backline of Gunners, Mages, Archers, and Elementalists because these assassins instantly jump toward the other side when the game starts.

According to their faction:

A hero’s faction is based on their special groupings determined by Moonton and hero lores.

Synergy-By-Faction

1. Nature Spirit

Heroes: Atlas, Miya, Eudora, Kadita, Belerick, Roger

[3] Nature Spirits can share the incoming damage and have a 25% Damage Reduction but lose all their Physical Defense.
[6] Nature Spirits can share the incoming damage and have a 35% Damage Reduction but lose all their Physical Defense.

Strategy: Using the Nature Spirit can be a double-edged sword because heroes must have a high defense, as all damage is shared among all the heroes with this synergy.

2. Ablaze Bounties

Heroes: Franco, Esmeralda, Claude, Aldous

[2] Puts bounties on 1 random enemy hero when the battle starts.
[4] Puts bounties on 2 random enemy heroes when the battle starts.

Strategy: Ablaze Bounties heroes are best used early in the game to take advantage of free coins that you can use immediately to buy expensive heroes.

3. Astro Power

Heroes: Martis, Zhask, Irithel, Minotaur, Badang, Karina

[3] The Astro Power hero with the most equipment gains 55% increased damage and can convert 12.5% of their damage dealt into HP.
[6] The Astro Power hero with the most equipment gains 110% increased damage and can convert 25% of their damage dealt into HP.

Strategy: You’ll need to pair Astro Power heroes with other synergies because getting Minotaur and Badang to complete the six heroes for the Tier 2 effect is difficult to attain early in the game.

4. S.A.B.E.R.

Heroes: Freya, Rafaela, Cyclops, Johnson, Layla, Saber

[3] At the beginning of each round, summon 1 S.A.B.E.R. Unitron suit.
[6] At the beginning of each round, summon 2 S.A.B.E.R. Unitron suits.

Strategy: When using the SABER Squad, it’s best to pair it with Northern Vale by utilizing Freya’s ultimate.

5. Prince

Heroes: Moskov, Dyrroth

[2] Each active Synergy grants Prince heroes 50 Physical Attacks.

Strategy: This is only a minor synergy for these two heroes, so you must only use this if you’re already building Archers or Wrestler synergies.

6. Cadia Riverlands

Heroes: Zilong, Sun, Wanwan, Luo Yi, Akai, Chou

[3] Each time an allied hero dies, a random Cadia Riverlands hero gains 12% extra Attack Speed and a 10% Max HP shield (up to 3 stacks).
[6] Each time an allied hero dies, all Cadia Riverlands heroes gain 12% extra Attack Speed and a 10% Max HP shield (up to 6 stacks).

Strategy: This synergy is another lineup that is difficult to complete the Tier 2 effect, so you can partner them with Guardians and Archers to take advantage of the existing heroes in the lineup.

7. Wyrmslayer Warrior

Heroes: Valir, Estes, Kimmy, Masha, Lancelot, Ling

[3] When Wyrmslayer Warriors defeat an enemy hero, they become invincible for 1 sec and gain 15% HP and 65% Physical Attack & Magic Power of the slain target. Stacks up to 2 times.
[6] When Wyrmslayer Warriors defeat an enemy hero, they become invincible for 1 sec and gain 15% HP, 65% Physical Attack & Magic Power of the slain target. Stacks up to 4 times.

Strategy: Wyrmslayer Warriors are a bit tricky to complete because their allied synergies are relatively more expensive. However, you can take the Tier 1 effect through three heroes and partner them with another synergy.

8. Northern Vale

Heroes: Franco, Freya, Aurora, Bane

[3] Northern Vale Heroes gain full Mana at the beginning of each round.

Strategy: You will never go wrong with Northern Vale because it’s one of the most stable lineups since the start of Magic Chess. By collecting three heroes, you can get Franco’s hook, Freya’s battle transformation, Aurora’s A.O.E. frost, or Bane’s attacking fishes.

9. Forsaken Light

Heroes: Julian, Melissa, Xavier, Yin

[2] When Forsaken Light heroes cast a skill, they will increase the Attack Speed of other Forsaken Light heroes by 35% for 4s.
[4] When Forsaken Light heroes cast a skill, they will increase the Attack Speed of all allied heroes by 35% for 4s.

Strategy: Forsaken Light is a less appealing synergy because of its limited effect. However, you can build this synergy if you already have Xavier on your team.

10. Necrokeep

Heroes: Leomord, Vexana, Faramis

[3] Necrokeep heroes cannot gain Mana but will recover all HP and Mana upon taking lethal damage.

Strategy: Necrokeep has a great effect but is difficult to complete since only three heroes fall under this synergy. Don’t prioritize this synergy; only complete it if the opportunity takes place.

11. Mystic Bureau

Heroes: Benedetta, Popol, Hanabi, Kagura, Lesley, Hayabusa, Alpha, Clint

[3] When a Mystic Bureau hero dies, they will turn into a copy of the hero with the Mystic Scroll and use their Ultimate immediately. For 1-star, 10%. For 2-stars, 15%. For 3-stars, 20%.
[6] When a Mystic Bureau hero dies, they will turn into a copy of the hero with the Mystic Scroll and use their Ultimate immediately. For 1-star, 15%. For 2-stars, 20%. For 3-stars, 25%.

Strategy: If you have completed at least three Mystic Bureau heroes in the game, put the Mystic Scroll to Kagura to increase your team’s damage.

Magic Chess is a great strategy game that you can play within the Mobile Legends app. It will also require you to learn the various combinations and allied synergies to ensure you can build the best lineup you can use.
