We’ve finally gotten a taste of the Gionee Elife S5.5 that’s updated to Android 4.4 KitKat. There are many minor changes here and there, but the update ultimately makes the world’s “slimmest smartphone” even better.

Per the System Update changelog, the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Gionee Elife S5.5 receives a new desktop layout, adds the Du Speed Booster app, and updates several existing apps with new UI design. The most noticeable change is the revamped notifications drawer; its quick settings toggles now have circular icons, and users can now easily view how much memory is consumed and available.

But almost everything else in the phone’s software is mostly the same, apart from minor changes like a flatter appearance and smoother animations. Benchmarking tools won’t do any justice if you want proof of better performance, since the difference in scores is negligible. Instead, you have to personally try the update to check the improvements.

Updating the Gionee Elife S5.5 is easy, but the update is more than 800MB in size. If your mobile data has a limit, you might want to download the update via Wi-Fi. We already gave a verdict for the Elife S5.5: it’s an amazing smartphone with a “powerful performance despite having a super-slim profile.” Updating it to the latest Android OS version available just makes it even better.
