MyPhone has been in a bit of a struggle with the pricing wars, but their latest handset is a step in the right direction. The local brand recently announced the MyPhone My31, a Php5k handset with a bit of a throwback Philippine map adorning its back. It’s a fairly decent-looking handset too, if the promotional graphic is to be believed, with a metallic accent strip running around the edges.

Of course, it’s not just the looks we care about, but the innards of the phone. The MyPhone My31 features a 5 inch HD IPS display and is driven by a 1.4GHz octa-core processor, most likely a MediaTek MT6592M SoC. You also get 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. As for imaging, the My31 is equipped with an 8mp autofocus shooter on the back and a 2mp front camera for selfies.

The MyPhone My31 runs KitKat 4.4 out of the box and comes with bonus “Pinoy Content” through a pre-installed app. Unfortunately, there’s no 4G here, only 3G/HSPA+ connectivity, but at least you’re getting a decent 2,500mAh battery to power the handset.

There’s no official confirmation yet whether the MyPhone My31 is already available, but their Facebook announcement does say that you can get it through MyPhone stores and kiosks nationwide. It just doesn’t say when.
