Since MediaTek released its MT6592 processor, we all know there’s no stopping the arrival of smartphones with true octa-core processing. Starmobile went first with the Diamond X1, while Cherry Mobile followed suit with its Cosmos Z2. Soon enough, we’ll have a third choice in the form of the THL T100. So, which beats which?

If you’ve to choose between these three, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 is your cheapest choice for an octa-core smartphone. It’s also notable for its KitKat upgrade guarantee and pixel-packed display.

Starmobile Diamond X1 white

The Starmobile Diamond X1 is the most expensive but has the biggest screen real estate, thinnest profile, and superb loudspeakers.

THL T100 Monkey King 2

Meanwhile, the soon-to-arrive THL T100 (Monkey King 2)–via the Novo7 Tech store–touts NFC connectivity, Sony cameras, largest battery capacity, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

To sum up, all three smartphones have their strengths and drawbacks. Let us know what you think.

  1. Buying is relative guys, to each his own. If someone decides to buy this or that, its the buyers choice. Kung defective or whatever, its the risk they are willing to take. Point is stop being so negative about convincing people to change their decisions. At least be constructive about it or base it with your experience. At the end of the day It’s not your money anyway. While the intention is clear, the delivery is really really poor… and don’t downplay Mediatek and call the phones they’re in as “Generic Brand” … mapa Samsung man yan or Nokia or iPhone or Cherry Mobile or Starmobile or Technology Happy Life or LG or HTC they are still “BRANDED”. To identify them as generic would be nameless and you can just pick it up at a Generic store (no pun intended).

    1. Well said. As the specs is already laid out, it’s up to the user (or let’s say “buyer’s) choice. Go depending on your preference(s). The THL as far as spec-wise, is superior, but the X1 tops the screen size and speakers making an excellent entertainment/media device. The Z2 is cheaper though. I believe all of them are great devices themselves.

  2. go with THL, Cherry mobile has poor in built quality.. It might brought headaches in you in the near future.. hehehe

Oh come on! Sayang lang pera nyo dyan. Ang 2600mAh nga netong s4 ko ambilis ma lowbat pag gaming mode yang octacore pa kaya?! How power efficient are those mediatek designed processors are? Especially that octacore?! They don’t have extensive R&D just like qualcomm and others. Tapos 2000mAh and 2300mAh ?! Emit kahit design ng phone from xperia and iphone?

    1. Yabang ah.. So pag hindi Samsung or Apple ang brand ibig sabihin generic na agad ganun ba? These brands may not be on the same level, but it doesn’t mean “desperado” at “utuuto” na yung bibili nito. How about learning proper english first before talking down on others? “How power efficient are those mediatek designed processors are”? LOL. Aral aral din pag may time. And before you accuse me of being a fanboy of local brands, I own an LG G2. I guess my phone is generic as well right.

LG G2 is a great phone sir and I would love to own one.

    2. Wag kang mayabang dyan. =)) nga pala I own an iPhone 5s pero may Cherry Mobile ako na mas madalas kong gamitin. :))

I used to work as a technical support ng apple at android phones ng mga taga US at marami akong troubleshooting experiences sa mga issues nila minsan pag di na pwede itroubleshoot nirereplace nalang namin.

  4. Why would any one even consider buying the cherry and starmobile. The batt for both are just too puny. THL’s 2,700mAh is barely enough much more a 2,000 and a 2,300 for octa-cores, phablet size and HD display.

  5. Spending north of Php12k-13k for a generic phone that will NEVER get an update is ridiculous.

As usual, we have the Starmobile here being the least desirable lol

  6. IMHO… THL T100 takes the lot. Battery Capacity pa lang panalo na, Add in its internal memory of 32 GB expandable to 64 GB, NFC, Gorilla Glass 3, Sony Sensors etc. while its closest competitor from Cherry Mobile, the Cosmos Z2 has everything too… it falls short on battery capacity of only 2000 mAh, for a full HD display mahihirapan lang sha to last at least 8 to 10 hours man lang, plus their bad aftersales reputation as well. I give props to Starmobile’s offering though for a larger 720p Display, thinnest profile, Dual Yamaha Speakers and good aftersales but its just too big for day to day use.
