YouTube has announced stricter measures to combat the use of unauthorized third-party ad-blocking apps that violate its terms of service.
Users attempting to watch videos with these apps may experience buffering or receive an error message stating, “The following content is not available on this app.” On its official support page, YouTube clearly states that it may prevent video playback for those utilizing ad blockers and encourages them to subscribe to YouTube Premium instead.
It’s important to note that the streaming platform specifically mentioned third-party apps using YouTube’s official API, which means that some may still go under the radar for now. AdGuard, for one, already announced that it’s currently unaffected by the change.

In November 2023, YouTube began its initial crackdown on ad blockers. But with the help of more sophisticated third-party ad blockers and apps, some users were still able to block advertisements and watch videos without interruption.
YouTube’s latest statement on ad blockers further reinforces the company’s position against it. The platform explains that the terms of service prohibit disabling ads through third-party apps because this action undermines the compensation creators receive through ad views. It also added that these advertisements are a significant source of revenue that supports content creators and allows billions of users worldwide to access YouTube’s streaming services.
For those seeking to avoid ads in YT videos, YouTube offers its ad-free Premium subscription as the legit alternative. In the Philippines, YouTube Premium (with YouTube Music) is currently available for Php159/month for Individual accounts and Php239/month for Family subscriptions. Students are eligible to get a discounted rate of only Php95/month.
