Filipino workers rank highest in the adoption of generative artificial intelligence among knowledge workers worldwide.

Microsoft recently released its latest edition of the Work Trend Index, an annual report that analyzes work habits and the influence of technology on trends reshaping corporate work. For 2024, the report focuses on AI and declares that “2024 is the year AI at work gets real.”

The report laid out three major findings based on their survey results covering 31,000 workers across 31 countries: employees want AI in the workplace even if their companies are slow to implement it, employees believe AI elevates expectations and breaks career limitations, and that AI power users are rising.

For the first finding, Microsoft elaborated that 86 percent of Filipino knowledge workers said they use AI at work, notably higher than the global average of 75 percent. Despite the risks, 83 percent of these Filipino AI users said they bring their AI tools to work due to companies failing to adopt the tech sooner.

As for Filipino leaders in companies, 89 percent said they believe adoption of AI is necessary to remain competitive. Likewise, 76 percent of the surveyed employees worldwide said AI skills are needed to be competitive in the job market.

AI is also affecting workers’ chances of getting hired. Seventy percent of Filipino leaders stated that they would only hire someone with AI skills, compared 66 percent of leaders worldwide.
