PanopticAI Vitals, an app for monitoring contactless vital signs with 98% accuracy, has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), making it the first FDA-cleared mobile app of its kind.
Developed by engineering alumni from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Dr. Kyle Wong, Dr. Nick Chin, and Mr. Teric Chan, PanopticAI is a health tech startup that can perform contactless health monitoring using the built-in camera of iPhones and iPads.
Using proprietary remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) algorithms, the PanopticAI can transform the input into medical-grade vital sign monitors for smartphones and tablets.

Advanced AI and signal processing techniques through facial scans and analyzing subtle color changes in the skin captured by the camera to measure vital signs, such as heart rate, breathing rate, and oxygen saturation in 30 seconds with an accuracy of 98%.
The firm, backed by Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs and Gobi Partners GBA, became the first Hong Kong-based company to achieve FDA clearance for a Software as a Medical Device (SaMD).
The technology significantly reduces cost and broadens access to efficient vital sign monitoring, and it is already utilized by hospitals, insurance providers, and pharmacies.
“By using a device nearly everyone has—a smartphone, tablet or laptop—we can capture these vital signs, providing an easy and accessible way for everyone to measure, monitor and manage personal health,” said Wong, PanopticAI’s co-founder and CEO.
