From who can offer the biggest batteries, the best performance, and the most ludicrous cameras, to a new area where Android makers are now competing: who can provide the longest software support?
Leading the race with the longest software support are Google and Samsung, who will continue updating select models for up to 7 years. But which of their offerings will actually receive such lengthy support?

Unsurprisingly, only their flagship, high-end devices will be supported extensively. That means almost all Pixel phones and these Samsung Galaxy devices:
- Samsung Galaxy S24
- Samsung Galaxy S24+
- Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra
Before this, Samsung has always been one of the leaders in the race. High-end Galaxy devices from 2019 or later were already guaranteed to receive four years of updates.
Even Samsung’s budget-friendly smartphones have some of the longest update support. The Galaxy A16 4G will be supported for six years while the Galaxy A55 5G will get 5 years.
I guess the only question now is, will the hardware still be able to handle the new features coming on future updates? We’ll just have to wait and see.
