Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Review - NoypiGeeks.com

Samsung will officially stop giving security updates to the former flagships from 2015.

Like every other Android manufacturer, Samsung has a set period of time where they will give proper software support for their product. Typically, a 2-year software update support is given to flagship smartphones, but Samsung has extended its security updates for another year.

Fast forward to today, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are no longer at the top of the smartphone chain, as the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus now run the show. That means that if S6 users care about their security, they should start switching to a new phone before the end of 2018.

On the flip side, Apple’s iPhone 5S which was released way back in 2013 runs on the latest version of iOS 11, albeit a little stripped down. But at least it gets security updates, unlike most Android smartphones which wait months or years just to get one.
