PLDT along with its wireless subsidiary, Smart Communications, are putting more money towards 5G with the goal of bettering its internet connection service as well as customer support.
To attain their goal, a prospective 726 towers will have to be built and running by the end of 2020, according to PLDT chief technology and information advisor, Joachim Horn.
When established, the upgraded infrastructure will increase both companies consolidated LTE population coverage to “94-95 percent,” including the capacity for dense areas.
Not to be taken as a simple feat, Horn claims that the plan is already ongoing and coincides other expansion efforts done in the year.
Other initiatives done towards meeting the objective includes upgrading 4,000 of Smart’s base stations as well as PLDT adding 1.69 million ports and establishing 422,000 kilometers of fiber infrastructure.
