Huawei has just made a new smartphone official by quietly listing it on their company website. Meet the new Huawei Y8p.
Design-wise, it’s not really that new, considering that we have already seen this in the form of the Huawei Enjoy 10s. In short, the Huawei Y8p is probably the international version which will release globally.
The Huawei Y8p features a 6.3-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and 90.17% screen-to-body ratio. Underneath the screen, there’s an in-display fingerprint scanner — a rare feat in midrange devices like this.

As for cameras, the Huawei Y8p comes with a 48-megapixel primary camera and SuperSpectrum RYYB sensor. It can also use Super Night Mode, which is capable of doing AI image processing and up to 6 second exposures. In addition, there’s a 120° 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens and 2-megapixel depth sensor as support. For selfies, it uses a 16-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies.
On the inside, the Huawei Y8p is equipped with a HiSilicon Kirin 710F processor with 4GB RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. There’s an option for 6GB of RAM, but storage is stuck at 128GB unless you use an NM card which can handle up to 256GB more.
Battery is only 4,000mAh and charging speed is limited to only 10W, which is kinda underwhelming considering that we should be getting faster speeds even in midrange handsets by now.

Like other recent Huawei and Honor smartphones, the Huawei Y8p doesn’t have out of the box support for Google Mobile Services. Instead, it uses Huawei’s own Mobile Services and AppGallery as a Play Store alternative.
The Huawei Y8p will be available in two colors similar to the Huawei Y9s: Breathing Crystal and Midnight Black. Several Huawei websites (Myanmar and Belarus) have already listed its price, and it starts at BYN 650 or around Php13,600 for the base model.
Update 09/02/20: The Huawei Y8p 6GB/128GB is now available in the Philippines for Php12,999.
We currently don’t know if the Huawei Y8p will be launched in the Philippines. But considering that the cheaper Huawei Y5p and Y6p are coming, there’s a good chance that we’ll also see this smartphone here.
