With the recent launch of Vivo’s newest smartphone, it’s only right that we compare it to another recently released device from another popular phone brand, OPPO.
The Vivo S1 Pro and the OPPO A9 2020 are two mid-range phones that were launched a few months apart. The OPPO A9 2020 came out in September 2019 while the Vivo S1 Pro just arrived this November 2019 and is expected to be available for purchase this November 30.
Let’s talk about the more recently launched device out of the two – the Vivo S1 Pro. This one is obviously the bigger version of the S1. It also has a different design when compared to its predecessor.
The phone sports a “diamond” shape design for its quad-camera set up at the back. Vivo’s main goal is to offer its young customers a cool and trendy way to express their styles.
On the other hand, the OPPO A9 2020 sports the typical glass back design where the quad-camera setup is in the middle part of the phone. Though the camera design looks standard, the phone is pretty stylish – especially if you’re planning to buy the Space Purple colorway.
Both OPPO and Vivo has put out a very reasonable price for their two phones. The question now is, is between these will really offer a great value for your money? These are the questions we’re going to answer in this Vivo S1 Pro vs OPPO A9 2020 specs comparison.

Probably the main difference between the two phones would be their display. The Vivo S1 Pro sports a 6.38-inch Super AMOLED display compared to the OPPO A9 2020’s 6.5-inch IPS screen.
Though the S1 Pro has the better display — size-wise, the A9 2020 takes the cake if you prefer having a larger screen real-estate. But if you’re the type of user that prefers better colors and contrast, then the Vivo S1 Pro is the clear winner here.

As stated earlier, the two phones are rocking the same chipset. The two devices are running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor along with the Adreno 610 GPU. If you were planning on basing your purchase decisions on performance. Tough luck, as they are an even match.
On the memory front, both phones have the same 128GB internal storage and an 8GB RAM. Along with this, both phones are capable of expanding their storage up to 256GB as well.
Camera-wise, the two have a quad-camera setup at the back with a lone selfie camera at the front. The camera specs are fairly similar to one another. They both have a 48-megapixel main shooter along with an 8-megapixel (ultrawide), 2-megapixel (macro), and a 2-megapixel (depth sensor) camera.
Probably their difference, camera wise, is their selfie shooters. The Vivo S1 Pro has a 32-megapixel camera compared to the 16-megapixel camera of the OPPO A9 2020.
On the battery aspect, the Vivo S1 Pro has a 4,550mAh battery with a 16W fast-charging feature. On the other hand, the OPPO A9 has a 5,000mAh battery with a reverse charging feature. Clearly, OPPO’s bet takes the win on this one.
But from what it looks like, the S1 Pro has overtaken the A9 2020 in some minor, but substantial areas. This one has an under-display fingerprint scanner versus the rear-mounted sensor of the latter. Another difference is the USB port feature. The Vivo S1 Pro has a newer Type-C port compared to the micro-USB implementation of the OPPO A9 2020.
To give OPPO some credit, the A9 2020 do have a stereo speaker setup. Which is rare on devices like this.
Finally, pricing wise, the two phones are relatively similarly priced with each other. The Vivo S1 Pro is priced at Php15,999 while the OPPO A9 is priced at Php15,990.
In this spec comparison match up, the Vivo S1 Pro takes the win over the OPPO A9 2020. Bottom line, if you’re looking for a new phone that has a unique design, better display, camera, and other more modern features like a UD fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C, the Vivo S1 Pro.
Although, let’s not sell the OPPO A9 short. If you’re the type of person who prefers having a bigger screen and a bigger battery, then this phone would also be a good choice.
