Xiaomi joined the trend by introducing the Redmi as their sub-brand. This joins other companies like Huawei’s Honor and OPPO’s Realme.
And now, there are three devices under this name. There’s the low-end Redmi Go, the certified-hit Redmi Note 7, and now, the latest Redmi Note 7 Pro.
The Redmi Note 7 gained a lot of buzz when it was introduced thanks to its impressive specs for the price. This thing packs a great design, a powerful processor, and a pair of killer cameras — which is a rare find for a device at this price.
All of those features were amped up when the Redmi Note 7 Pro entered the picture. As the name suggests, the ‘Pro’ variant offers a lot of specs bump and upgrades that make it worthy of its name.
With that, here in our Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 vs Redmi Note 7 Pro specs comparison, we ought to see what’s the difference between these two devices. Other than being curious about their similarities, we also want to know is spending the extra cash for the Note 7 Pro is worth it, or if you’re better off settling with the non-Pro variant. As you can see, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro has tons of similarities — especially on the design, build, and some key specs.
For starters, both devices have the same display features. They have large 6.3-inch IPS screens, with a sharp FHD+ resolution. There’s also the tiny waterdrop notch on top, which provides a decent screen-to-body ratio of 81.4%.
Both models also have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. However, a recent durability test conducted proves that you might want to take care of it as the screen on the back and the overall chassis is more fragile than most devices around.
As for the overall footprint, both the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro has the same dimensions and weight. This is possible since both models also have the same 4,000mAh battery. It’s also worth noting that they both come with Quick Charge 4.0 technology.
The two also share the same 13-megapixel selfie camera, connectivity features, and runs on the latest Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10 interface.
With that, the key differences here lies on the chipset used and the main camera — some of the key features that most people are actually excited for on these devices.
The Redmi Note 7 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor and is available in 3GB/4GB/6GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 7 Pro has a newer and more powerful Snapdragon 675 chipset, and is available in 4GB/6GB RAM options and 64GB/128GB of expandable storage.
Also, the Pro variant has a more capable primary camera. Although both of them has a 48-megapixel rear shooter (and a 5-megapixel depth sensor), the Redmi Note 7 Pro has a better Sony IMX586 sensor, while the former uses a less impressive Samsung ISOCELL GM1 sensor, at least for the Chinese model. The device sold in India only comes with a 12-megapixel camera, which is the variant that we expect to arrive in the Philippines.
So, is getting the Redmi Note 7 Pro a wiser choice than the Redmi Note 7? Well, it depends on you. But considering the minimal price difference between the two, going with the more powerful option, which also has a better camera, might be the more ideal route.
The Redmi Note 7 with 4GB/64GB variant retail for INR11,999 (~Php8,800) while the Redmi Note 7 Pro with the same RAM and storage configuration will retail for INR13,999 (~Php10,200).
While those local pricing are just direct conversions, we shall expect these two devices to arrive in the Philippines with a similar price difference. But, if you’re budget is much lower than that, then you might want to check out the 3GB/32GB Redmi Note 7, instead.
