Both Nokia and ASUS launched their new upper midrange offerings in the Philippines last week. While they are priced slightly differently, the ASUS Zenfone 5 and Nokia 7 Plus will be the consumers’ options in the sub-Php20k category.
Both devices are targeted to those who are looking for a high-end smartphone but doesn’t want to drain a lot of cash for a new smartphone. Come to think of it, it’s probably one of the main reasons why devices like these exist.

The Nokia 7 Plus is almost Php2,000 more expensive than the ASUS Zenfone 5. While the former clearly has better specs than the latter, the Zenfone 5 isn’t going down without a fight.
The Zenfone 5 2018 uses the more trendy 19:9 aspect ratio which was achieved thanks to its display notch on top. But if you’re more conventional and simply hate the notch, then I think you’d like the 7 Plus’ standard 18:9 aspect ratio.
Moreover, the Nokia 7 Plus offers a more appealing set of cameras with its pixel-dense sensors and ZEISS optics. On the other hand, the ASUS Zenfone 5 fights back with its 4-axis optical image stabilization and a slew of AI-enabled camera modes and features.
However, it’s hard to combat the Nokia 7 Plus‘ better Snapdragon chipset, bigger battery, and more efficient operating system. But to the Zenfone 5’s credit, it does have facial recognition feature and better sound output — something that the competition lacks.
At the end of the day, it will depend on the consumers’ preference. If you want a better user experience, faster processor, bigger battery, and unique design — the Nokia 7 Plus is what you’re looking for.
But if you’re all for taking pictures, recording videos, and you adore the iPhone X look provided by the display notch — then save money and go with the ASUS Zenfone 5 2018.
The Nokia 7 Plus has an SRP of Php21,990 while the Zenfone 5 2018 is priced at Php19,995. Which would you pick between the two? Let us know in the comments section below.
