The Honor Play is currently gaining a lot of buzz in the Philippines. Since it was introduced in the country a couple of days back, people just can’t wait to get their hands on it, which is not happening until it becomes officially available on August 13.
And we can’t really blame them. If you haven’t heard about the Honor Play, this device is possibly the most powerful smartphone that you can get for the price. It packs the same processor that we see on Honor and Huawei’s high-end devices, so expect an uncompromised performance here.
But there’s more to a smartphone than just its sheer power. While having a good processor sure is a good thing, we should also consider its camera capabilities, design, battery capacity, and more.
On the other hand, the ASUS Zenfone 5 2018 comes from a family of design-oriented, camera-centric smartphones, which is why we’re excited to see if the Honor Play can take on any smartphone using all of its features, and not just its powerful processor.
With that, we’re curious to see how the Honor Play stacks up with the competition in terms of its overall specifications and features. We’ll be doing just that in our Honor Play versus ASUS Zenfone 5 2018 comparison. Let’s start!

We already know that the Honor Play has the better processor between the two. However, we didn’t expect that it was still able to nail other parts of the specs, which easily puts down the ASUS Zenfone 5 2018.
We initially thought that the Honor Play will undermine the Zenfone 5 in the camera department. But as it turns out, the Honor Play was still able to take the lead. The former only has an 8-megapixel selfie camera, while the latter has a 16-megapixel front camera.

In addition, the Honor Play has a better 16-megapixel primary camera and a secondary 2-megapixel one for depth sensing. On the other hand, the Zenfone 5 only has a 12-megapixel rear camera. Although we do commend its 8-megapixel wide-angle camera and 4-axis image stabilization.
We also liked the Zenfone 5 2018’s dual speakers, more advanced connectivity features, and stunning design. However, those are still not enough to beat the Honor Play’s incredible value for money.
Speaking of the Honor Play, let’s detail some of the key reasons why it’s really better than the ASUS Zenfone 5.
First, there’s the said powerful processor. The Kirin 970 chipset on this thing is the same processor powering the Huawei Nova 3 and the Honor 10, which are high-end smartphones of their respective brands.
The handset comes with GPU Turbo technology out of the box, so expect even better gaming performance from its already powerful graphics chip.
Let’s not forget the 3,750mAh battery on the Honor Play. It might not be the biggest that we have seen on a smartphone, but it’s definitely better than the 3,300mAh capacity on the ASUS Zenfone 5 2018.
Probably the most interesting fact about the Honor Play is its price. This device only has a price tag of Php15,990, which is significantly cheaper than the Php19,995 asking price of the ASUS Zenfone 5 2018. Overall, the Honor Play is definitely the most value-oriented smartphone on the midrange market.
Asus Zenfone 5 just went on sale for Php17,995.
same specs? did you made any research? Same specs with MI A2? FYI MI A2 has no sd slot, no head phone jack.. Honor Play is using flagship chip, MI A2 is using mid range chip. MI A2 has no NFC compared to Zenfone 5. Better camera? Proof please. Sick of Xiaomi fans who just babble without reasearch. I’d rather go to Nokia 7 plus for sd660 with better and tested built quality than Mi A2.
MiA2 is non expandable, correct?
Go with MI A2 if you want same specs and a better camera and 6k cheaper on lazada
If Asus Zenfone 5 will have a price drop, I will buy it.
Nice comparison. Still not decided which to buy.
