2020 is the year when we saw a huge surge in 5G-equipped smartphones, and both Realme and Xiaomi are in the forefront of it.

Both brands have released 5G phones in the Philippines, and today, we’ll be comparing both of them. First, we have the Realme X50 Pro 5G, the company’s first proper flagship offering in the Philippines with its modern processor, smooth display, and ultra-fast charging.

We’ll be comparing that with the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro, another high-end 5G phone in the country.

Just like the former, it has all the flagship specs, features, and design that you might expect from a modern 2020 smartphone.

Design and Build Quality

Being high-end phones, both the Realme X50 Pro 5G and Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro has premium build with their sturdy aluminum chassis and touch Gorilla Glass 5 in front and back.

With their premium materials and curved corners, they should feel really sleek in the hands.

However, unlike most fancy flagships, they are not the most compact phones around. Albeit, the Realme device is smaller at 205g (vs. 218g) and 8.9mm thickness (vs. 9.3mm).

They also lack any official waterproof rating. Albeit, their clean design and color options just screams elegance.

Display and Sound Quality

If you want speed, go with the Mi 10T Pro. As you can see, it has a 144Hz refresh rate, while the latter only has 90Hz. It’s also adaptive, so it switches between different refresh rates depending on what you’re doing to save battery. The Mi 10T also has a slightly larger size.

But if color is a top priority, go with the X50 Pro 5G’s Super AMOLED screen, which offers better colors and image quality than the IPS screen on the former.

Being high-end phones, neither have headphone jacks. It also appears that neither has 3.5mm to USB-C adapter in the box, so you have to get them separately. On the upside, both have stereo speakers and Hi-Res audio, albeit the Xiaomi device lacks Dolby Atmos.

Hardware and Performance

You can’t be a proper flagship Android if you’re not powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 CPU, which is why both devices have it.

The Realme X50 Pro gets a one-up by having 12GB of RAM, which’s 4GB more than Mi 10T Pro. The latter has a faster UFS 3.1 storage, but neither have microSD card slots for storage expandability.

Whichever you use, you can still expect identical ultra-fast and seamless performance.

Cameras

The Realme X50 Pro 5G has a sharper front-facing camera and a secondary 8-megapixel ultra-wide for group shots.

But if you won’t be taking too many selfies, you might be better off with the Mi 10T Pro. It has a sharper 108-megapixel selfie camera, while the latter only has 64-megapixels. It also has an optical image stabilizer (OIS), 8K video recording, and 960fps slow-mo recording, which the other lacks.

It may lack a telephoto lens, but the ultra-sharp sensor of the Mi 10T Pro is enough for clean digital zoom.

Battery

The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro has a 5,000mAh battery, while the latter only has 4,200mAh. This shall provide a longer screen-on time.

Realme-X50-Pro-5G-NoypiGeeks-5733

However, the Realme X50 Pro has twice the charging speed at 65W. Personally, we think the difference between the batteries is negligible, so we’d prefer having the phone with the ultra-fast charging technology.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro has a price of Php24,990 and is available in Mi Stores online and offline. On the other hand, the Realme X50 Pro 5G is exclusively available through Smart Signature Plan M for Php1,899 per month with a Php6,900 one-time cashout.

Realme-X50-Pro-5G-NoypiGeeks-5737

If we do a quick math, the Plan M only cost Php1,499, so the extra Php400 you’d be paying within the two-year lock-in period is for the device ammortization. Php400 x 24 months = Php9,600 + Php6,900 initial cashout = Php16,500.

Technically, the Realme X50 Pro costs less. However, you’d be tied in on a Php1,499 postpaid plan for two years. So ultimately, you’d be spending Php52,476. But bear in mind that the Plan M comes with 10GB data with rollover, unli all-net text and calls, andan 100min calls to PLDT per month.

As per the specs, both are fairly similar. As you just saw, they have their own strengths and weaknesses. Personally, if you plan on getting a postpaid plan anyway to take full advantage of 5G connectivity, go with the Realme X50 Pro 5G.

But if you don’t live in areas with 5G coverage and just want a proper flagship phone without the monthly commitment, the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro is the one for you.
