Despite getting caught in the crossfire between India and China, PUBG Mobile still managed to earn the top spot in earnings among mobile games in 2020, having reached $2.6 billion worldwide.

Per SensorTower, Tencent’s battle royale game for smartphones got $2.6 billion when combined with its Chinese localized counterpart Game for Peace. That’s a 64.3-percent year-on-year increase from 2019, and $1 billion more since PUBG Mobile was first reported as the top earner in September 2020.

Not far behind is another Tencent game, the battle arena Honor of Kings, with $2.5 billion earnings in 2020. Pokémon Go placed third with $1.2 billion. Two more games have earned more than $1 billion, Coin Master and Roblox.

The global health issue is attributed as a major factor in the massive boost in earnings by mobile games. In 2018 and 2019, only three mobile titles made billion-dollar earnings. From 2014 to 2017, only two games reached the same milestone per year.
