The original iPhone SE was launched way back in 2016It was due for a refresh last year but it was ‘canceled’ as Apple pushed all their efforts in developing the iPhone X.

But now, it looks like Apple is now ready to come up with a new budget iPhone. According to the newest leak, Apple might be gearing up for a May 2018 release of the iPhone SE 2.

Based on the new report, the iPhone SE 2 will be equipped with an Apple A10 Fusion chipset — a processor that was first introduced on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and carried over to the new 9.7-inch iPad (2018).

The A10 Fusion chip is the reason why AnTuTu hailed the iPhone 7 as the fastest smartphone in the world back in 2016. That’s clearly not the case now, but it’s still a relatively powerful processor today.

On the downside, Apple is taking the 3.5mm headphone jack off. Case renders also show that the iPhone SE 2 will look exactly like its predecessor.

The back is now filled with glass, which might be due to Apple’s move to include wireless charging on their handsets.

Although the front was not pictured, we expect it to be just like the original iPhone SE. We still don’t know if it will have a screen notch like the iPhone X, but we imagine Apple keeping the TouchID instead of implementing the new Face ID to cut down on costs.

In other news, a recent report suggests that Apple is preparing to add dual-SIM functionality on iPhones. Since the iPhone SE 2 is aimed at developing markets, we could possibly see it making a debut here.
