Nokia is rumored to be announcing a 41-megapixel Windows Phone 8 monster handset at Mobile World Congress 2013 but to get more attention on the said event, they need to spice up their line-up. As a result, another rumor said that Nokia is prepping up two more devices to complement the current Lumia family.

Nokia Lumia 620 hasn’t been officially launched in the Philippines yet but new devices are always welcome – especially if they will be cheaper than the 620. Several online stores already have the Lumia 620 on stock for a price of around Php12,000-Php13,000 so considering Lumia 520’s lower model number, it is already obvious that it’ll be cheaper – which is also the case with Lumia 510 and 610. We’re hoping that it will be priced at Php9,000-Php10,000 –  but let’s not forget to limit our hopes as it might turn into a disappointment. The screen size tactic baffles me here because this was the same case with their predecessors – Nokia Lumia 520 is more affordable but why would they put the bigger display on it? It’s odd but it’s still nice nonetheless.

Nokia Lumia 520 (codename: Fame) rumored specifications:

  • Windows Phone 8
  • 4-inch Super Sensitive Screen, 480×800 pixel resolution
  • 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage
  • microSD card support
  • 5-megapixel main camera, no front camera

On the other hand, a mid-range smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 720 will be a good addition as well. For those who don’t have much budget but still want the top notch Windows Phone 8 performance, Lumia 720 can be a great choice. However, since it is rumored to sport only a mediocre 512MB of RAM, the Nokia Lumia 820 looks like a better buy.

Nokia Lumia 720 (codename: Zeal) rumored specifications:

  • Windows Phone 8
  • 4.3-inch CBD Display
  • 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 8GB on board storage, expandable via microSD card
  • HSPA+
  • 6-megapixel rear camera
  • 2-megapixel front camera

The specs listed above are not yet confirmed and it was just sent by an anonymous tipster to MyNokiaBlog so be sure to take this lightly and don’t assume that these are the final products. Also, the tipster told them the Nokia is planning to announce five new ‘devices’ at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We noticed that it was noted as ‘devices’ instead of ‘phones’ that’s why it got our attention because that sounds like the much awaited Nokia tablet can be included in their line-up this year. But then again, we have to wait until we hear their official announcement at MWC.

Looking at the current Lumia series, it already seem to be a complete set, but more choices is cool for me.  Having a device like the Lumia 520 could definitely increase the growth of the WP8 platform since more people are turned off by the expensive prices of smartphones running on it. Some might disagree, but whether we admit it or not, that’s the most evident reason.

I honestly think that the Windows Phone 8 platform can take the third place in the mobile OS wars but in order to do that, they need to work hard in marketing their products and of course – adding more popular apps that people want/need.

What do you think? Will you switch to a Windows Phone 8 smartphone if you can buy one for less than Php10,000? Let us know in the comments section below.
