It looks like OnePlus is finally ready to diversify its smartphone portfolio with the rumored release of the OnePlus Z.

As the name suggests, the OnePlus Z is going to be a cheaper alternative to the high-end OnePlus 8 ad 8 Pro smartphones. It’s highly plausible that this is the final marketing name of the rumored OnePlus 8 Lite.

Rumor has it that the OnePlus Z will still be a pretty lavish device — sitting in the premium midrange category. The device is expected to inherit the popular smartphone designs today.

This means it will have a bezel-less screen on the front with a punch-hole for the selfie camera. Early rumors state that it will have a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, with a fast 90Hz panel. That’s the same refresh rate we saw on the Realme 6 series.

To separate it from OnePlus’s flagship line, the OnePlus Z might inherit some of the specs that the OnePlus 7T has. This will still make it fast and capable while keeping the cost at the minimum.

With that, expect to see a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 camera on this thing. Plus, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, and if we’re lucky, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens.

OnePlus might also use the same 3,800mAh battery on this thing, with the Warp Charge 30T support.

The company has a couple of chipset options to use for this device. There’s the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, MediaTek Dimensity 1000L, or the Snapdragon 855 processor from the 7T.

The pricing for the OnePlus Z, much like all the other details about it, is expected to be unveiled alongside the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro on April 14.

But if it’s indeed going to be a premium midrange device, we expect it to sit in the sub-Php20k category. This will put it head-to-head against the Redmi K30 Pro and Realme X50 Pro.
