Literally, just a few hours after we’ve reported that OPPO has finally found a way to hide the selfie camera underneath the display, Xiaomi fights back and teased their own under-display camera smartphone.

Probably in fear to be left out, or just out of pure coincidence, Xiaomi took to Twitter and posted a video of what seems to be the Xiaomi Mi 9 with an under-display selfie camera.

You can see them comparing it side by side with a what looks like the standard Mi 9 and its waterdrop notch on top. The one on the left is clear from any notch, punch-hole cutout — just a fully utilize display.

This means that you can entirely use the display that’s free from any distractions and obstruction. Also, if this indeed works well, this is a way better solution than the sketchy pop-up mechanisms that we saw on devices like the OPPO F11 Pro or the Vivo V15 Pro (although they are proven and tested to last really long).

Although Xiaomi’s under-display camera technology is seen ported on a fully functioning device, the company is still mum regarding what device it will actually debut with and its full release details.

This is the first time we’re seeing this kind of technology working in the flesh, so I suggest that everyone keep their cool and not get too excited.
