The effects of the United States banning its top tech companies to work with Chinese giant Huawei is very evident. As a result, Honor and Huawei devices lost Google Mobile Services support.

From what it looks like, the US-China trade war is not ending soon and Huawei clearly got caught in the middle.

The most notable partner that Huawei almost lost in this conflict is Google. The US government prohibits Google to work with Huawei. Although a recent report says that Google is applying for a special license that will allow them to continue working with Huawei.

Whether it will be approved or not is still uncertain. In addition, the ban has been going on for a couple of months already, and a lot of Huawei and Honor smartphones have been released since then.

But before we give you the list of affected Huawei and Honor devices, let us give you a quick explanation of the effects of the Huawei and Google relationship issue, and what does it mean for the affected devices.

The biggest one you have probably heard by now is the lack of Google Mobile Services (GMS) support on Huawei and Honor devices that were launched since May 16, 2019.

Affected devices still run on Android, but they do not have Google Play store, and other Google apps like Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and more. You can side-load these apps, but Google has warned people against it.

To compensate, the Chinese tech giant has been hard at work to improve their own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) to bring alternatives to Google apps. Their take on Google Play Store, dubbed as the App Gallery, is also starting to fill up with more apps and games. Several weeks ago, reports about a possible partnership between Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi, and Vivo to build a Play Store competitor also has surfaced.

While HMS is starting to improve day by day, there are still some people who would prefer the reliability and prominence of GMS. This is the reason why we created a list of Huawei and Honor smartphones/tablet that lack GMS, so you know which one to avoid.
